The Eurovision song contest is an annual contest whereas countries can each choose and enter their artists into. Over the past few years Britain has had a dismal time at the Eurovision with the 2008 contest capping it off with a last place finish. Below is a brief caption of where Britain has finished over the last decade.
1999 – Say It Again – Precious (UK Singles Chart # 6)
2000 – Don’t Play That Song Again – Nicki French (At the time, holder of the UK’s worst ever placing – 16th) (UK Singles Chart # 34)
2001 – No Dream Impossible – Lindsay Dracass (UK Singles Chart # 32)
2002 – Come Back – Jessica Garlick (“Pop Idol” contestant who is responsible for the UK’s best result this decade – joint 3rd in Tallinn) (UK Singles Chart # 13)
2003 – Cry Baby – Jemini (The UK’s only “nil points”) (UK Singles Chart # 15)
2004 – Hold On to Our Love – James Fox (UK Singles Chart # 13)
2005 – Touch My Fire – Javine Hylton (UK Singles Chart # 18)
2006 – Teenage Life – Daz Sampson (UK Singles Chart # 
2007 – Flying The Flag (For You) – Scooch (UK Singles Chart # 5)
2008 – Even If – Andy Abraham (The second UK entry to place last). (UK Singles Chart #67)
2009 – My Time – Jade Ewen
But do not despair this year the country has really been trying hard to push forwards and finish in a Top 10 position.
The result was to get Andrew Lloyd Webber to write a song and for the public to pick a singer in X Factor style auditions. The end of January saw the show Your Country Needs You come to an end with Jade Ewan emerging as the winner.
To be honest there was only really going to ever be one winner as Jade was in a different league from the other contestants, she has a great R&B sound, sort of like a Leona Lewis sound, although not as good as of yet.
So can she win the Eurovision? Well to be honest I think she has a great chance and what her and Andrew Lloyd Webber need to do is properly promote themselves and the song throughout Europe so that people can familiarise themselves with it.
Another benefit this year is that not only is the song and artist good, but the voting on the contest has changed so it is not only down to public votes as over recent years there did seem to be a lot of block voting. This year it will be half public votes and half jury votes which make s the cumulative score.
