    I purchased this for my 12yr old son for Chritsmas.

    Pretty easy to put together, and on the whole was impressed.

    He’s no drummer but wanted one to begin on and this is perfect, I was going to go for a more expensive set but glad I didn’t.

    It needs a reasonable set of speakers and when connected sounds pretty good. Foot pedals were responsive which is good as have been some bad reveiws on them.

    Overall…don’t expect the earth as you only get what you pay for but good value for money and for a beginner a good choice.

    I think this item has got a lot of bad reviews and they arn’t all true, for a start, this kit is IDEAL for a begginer durmmer like myself, the double click pedal problem only seems to occur if i press on the pedal to lightly, so after a little work it’s fine.

    I was very worried when i first read the reviews for this item as i bought it elsewhere, but i must say, i cannot fault it, i think some experienced drummers were looking for something for nothing and were dissapointed. Though i will say the clamps that hold the drums on can be easily tightened, i broke one of mine off by accident, but it was easily fixed just with a simple nut and bolt.

    Cons

    You have to have it connected to a computer

    Is not supported on Vista 64-bit (It’s a 16bit installer)

    Clamps have plastic turners, a little weak, but can be replaced easily

    Pros

    Easy to move around

    Easy to set up

    Easy to customise the sounds

    Easy to adjust the drum pads to how you want, without having to mess around

    Fun to play

    Very portable, packs easily into a carry case and away you go

    Reliable (I cannot fault it at all for reliability)

    Affordable

    Fun for a budding drummer

    Well, this drum kit looked great. After a relatively easy set up, I was playing in no time. It does have a large number of sounds, and is fairly easy to use.

    However, it came with no instructions in the box, and the online instructions were written in broken english and very hard to follow. The hi hat pedal did not work with the drum kit, i.e, no open hi hat sound, and I cannot see how it could ever work (there are not enough ports for it.)

    Although the kit promised that you could play along to songs, play a drumming game, and record yourself playing, none of these features worked. Also, after playing for around four months, the nail holding the snare pad snapped under the shock, and many parts have since flown off of the kit while I have been playing.

    This kit would probably be great for young kids, if the features will ever work, but if you are a serious drummer, don’t buy this, as you will be left disappointed, and go for a yamaha or roland electronic kit.

    Not a bad product, but the bass pedal is incredibly poor quality and lacks any feel. Worse still it is oversensitive and triggers without warning which really puts your timing off and makes the drum set practically useless.

    I cured the problem by buying a seporate bass pedal from a proper drum kit and an ION expansion pad, and hooked the bass pedal up to hit the pad. Which completely changed the feel of the kit and made it much better and more fun to play.

    If it wasn’t for the dodgy bass pedal i would have given it more stars, but it cost me about £60 extra to get the kit working to an acceptable standard.

    This was the second drum kit from ION that I have bought. It took two years for the first one to wear out and it was used every day.

    It has changed slightly since then the electronic box has become more compact. The drum pads are rounder and give off good quality sound.

    I orginally bought these as an alternative to alienating the neighbours or restricting the times that a drum kit could be played.

    Recommended for anyone who gets on with their neighbours but want a drum kit.

    I recently bought one of these from PC world, an I returned it within about 4 hours of purchase because it is completely useless.

    Not only did I notice, straight away, the problem with the pedals, as has been mentioned in every other review (when you use the pedals, you’ll more often than not end up hearing the sound twice, sometimes three times.), but I also found that, no matter which pad I hit, somehow the vibrations in the frame would cause the Crash symbol to sound as well.

    It’s completely useless as a drum kit. DON’T BE SWAYED BY THE LOW PRICE, YOU WILL BE DISSAPPOINTED!

    I’m a beginner when it comes to drums, and trying to learn to play on a kit like this certainly won’t help.

    There are settings to adjust sensitivity of each pad, but this made absolutely no difference to the problem. Though some pads are over-sensative (in my case the crash), others are far too un-responsive, making things like drum rolls impossible.

    TRUST ME, even if you just want something to mess around with, THIS KIT IS A WASTE OF MONEY!!!!

    If you want a good kit, save up and get a semi-decent one from your local music store, you can get okay-ish/reliable kits from around £300.

    If you just want something to mess around with, you might as well save yourself a shedload and just buy one of those roll-up drum kits from ebay.

    The other alternative is to go for a regular practise kit. This will probably set you back, as much as this ion, but without the sounds, but it will feel alot nicer, and be alot more fun to play.

    I was drawn in by the price, but I’m jsut glad the PCWORLD refunded me, because otherwise i’d be stuck with a £130 plastic paper-weight, it’s not even worth £50, let alone £130.

    Great budget starter kit. My son is ten and has just started to play. I was looking for an electric kit (for the volume), but which didn’t cost the earth in case he didn’t keep it going. In both respects it has delivered exactly what I was looking for. The only minor issue we had is with the software. It tends to crash and has to be re-booted from time to time. An irritation rather than a catastrophy.

    I bought this as my first drum kit and have now been drumming with this kit for 10 months and must say that the kit is worth the money you pay for it.

    Yes it feels and looks cheap, yes the software could be better(there’s no proper ride cymbol)however it’s diverse in the way you can swap around drums sounds to suit your own drum style. There is a slight delay in the response aswell but you get used to it quickly, i don’t even notice it now. You do really get what you pay for; a no frills beginners drum kit.

    I agree with some of the other reviewers that have said that the bass drum pedals are poor and over sensitive, however this cannot be helped because of the nature of the design that the pedal has been made: it’s a switch with a spring in it and it does have a tendancy to move around alot depending if you playing on thick carpet or hard floor. One of my pedals actually broke about 2 weeks ago so now i have the choice as to whether i use the bass drum or chose to open or close the high-hat. I did find away to operate both at the same time with one pedal but this is an imperfect solution. I also am finding it hard to find a replacement pedal at the moment, i’m not sure if they can be purchased seperatly.

    The drums have had almost frequant use since i first purchased them and so far the drums and screws remain intact, however some of the screws have a tendancy to come lose, in particular the cymbol which consistantly came lose until i decided to tighten the screw with a pair of pliers, which sorted out the problem so far.

    The kit doesn’t come with asembly instructions in the form of a hard copy, however after putting the kit together i found out that the instructions are on the CD which came with the kit. It would of been great if i knew this previously.

    In conclusion this is a great kit for beginners such as myself, it’s inexpensive, compact and easy to use. I would easily recommend this to anyone with an interest in drums, i would not recommend it to anyone with previous experiance with a drum kit as you will be disappointed by the overall quality of the drum kit. Once again you get what you pay for.

    My son used this it for about 18 months, now I am selling it here. Contrary to other reviews, nothing broke and we were very happy with the kit. The bass pedal could be better, can be adjusted for sensitivity, but for better feel and control we moved one of the pads low to simulate a bass drum and bought a real bass pedal. That worked very well! The kit is perfect for “silent” practice using headphones, and compares well with other electronic kits that cost £300+.

    .. which is basically an inexpensive USB input device that you can hit ! It does the job of providing a drumming setup that you can practice on and learn how to develop the skills to play properly. Ultimately an inexpensive learning toy. NOT a drumkit to use for gigging and serious recording !

    Negatives:

    - the pedals are poor. They are cheap switches in a cheap pedal that moves around too much and triggers spuriously.

    - the software is a bit weak. Not as nicely featured as I would like – it’s more of a game than a real useful application. No complex drum modelling – pretty much sample triggering with volume.

    - it’s probably not going to last all that long with a decent amount of playing.

    Positives:

    - Cheap !

    - Mine setup and worked just fine first time

    - A good introduction to playing the drums and a good way to practice without waking the street (although the sound of hitting the rubber pads can be quite loud in itself – probably annoying for people in the same room if you are playing with headphones on)

    - Just about good enough (preferably with some other pedals) for hobbyist recording.

    - The drumkit registers itself (with Windows anyway) as a 6 analogue axis, 10 button joystick. Given some programming skill it should be fairly easy to create some other software to give it a new ‘brain’ instead of the supplied software, or better – convert the signals to MIDI for connection to myriad other systems.
