Leona Lewis did it with her debut single and her debut album, but once again she has smashed a massive record. Her new song the Snow Patrol cover of Run, has been downloaded more than 70,000 times in its first two days of release. Therefore it has smashed the previous digital track record which came from Estelle’s American Boy song, which sold 51,857 downloads in a week to become the biggest digital-only single.
Leona Lewis shot to fame in the TV reality singing show X Factor, after blowing the judging panel away which consisted of Simon Cowell, Sharon Osbourne and Louis Walsh, she continued on to finally win the show and grab her self a Christmas number one single.
She them went away for a year and it was well worth the wait, as Leona launched her debut album Spirit. Her first single release was Bleeding Love which shot to number one both in the UK and USA. But things just keep improving for Leona as they should do, because she is a very talented singer with a huge vocal range.
But Leona’s new single was not even planned for release, but after a stunning performance on the X Factor, record label bosses decided that it should be available. After her re release of an enhanced version of Spirit again shot to number one, it was only a matter of time until Run would be promoted.
Leona has had an amazing year and 2009 could not look any brighter for the fresh talent. She is also up for a spectacular Grammy award which she looks likely to win for record of the year.
So all in all it just goes to show that talent shows can produce top quality artists maybe not all of the time. But when it does finally produce them they are something to be cherished and nurtured. In the UK there have been so many different talent shows but we have seen some amazing artists come from them which include, Leona Lewis, Shayne Ward, Lemar, Will Young and Girls Aloud.
But there have also been a lot of people that have just had a taste of fifteen minutes of fame, when it looked as though they would conquer the world. These included Hearsay, Gareth Gates, Michelle McManus and Darius Danesh. It’s a bit like any business really, you get some winners and you get some unlucky people that’s just the way life goes.
