If you are about to take the plunge and buy your first keyboard or maybe you are buying for someone else, probably your kids then you might ask yourself, which make is the best? Which model to I need? And how much should I spend? If you can answer these three questions, you will get a good useable beginners keyboard.
So first, which brand to go for, the most popular brands are Yamaha and Casio. Either of these keyboards will be more than adequate for beginners and this also answers the second question. Where the Casio wins is with the third question, how much should you spend? Casio keyboards have always been cheaper than probably any other keyboard available and these days there is a massive second hand market where you can pick up used Casio keyboards at ridiculously low prices.
You might ask why there are so many second hand Casio keyboards for sale. The answer is simple; lots of people that start learning to play the keyboard will give up within 3 months. This means many keyboards are left gathering dust and then finally sold for a song on auction sites.
Really this is a win win situation for everybody concerned because if you are the seller, then ok, it didn’t work out, but its not cost you a fortune to find out that being a keyboard player is not for you. For the buyer you get a used Casio keyboard that’s hardly used at a bargain price and the whole process starts again. If you get past the three-month itch as I call it, and take to playing your Casio keyboard, then you might consider going for a better model, if you don’t take to it, then again you can sell it and it’s not cost you too much.
So if you are a beginner I can recommend a Used Casio Keyboard, but do yourself a favour and either get lessons or download a Piano Keyboard Course. If you get a good start, you will continue to progress and enjoy your playing.
